Standing Desk: Design and Construction

Saw several designs on web that caught my fancy. Took ideas from two and had at it. I knew I wanted to have a shelf above the desk surface on which to set laptops / monitors and have a decent sized keyboard and writing surface underneath. I like the idea of having linear actuators to raise and lower the desk {Hey Google … lets rise to the occasion! / Hey Google … settle down} I’d seen lots of LA’s before in the Princess Auto catalog (#DROOL) ..but was horrified at the prices! I guess  those  were proper industrial versions … which was overkill for my needs. Thankfully Amazon saves the day, yet again! [ordered two 14 “extension LA’s..each with a 1300LB lift rating..hmm … should almost be able to use this as a hoist for the Jeep … expected Wednesday].

And assembled and prepared materials …

Boards cut to width for the top (and riser just to the right)

Cut and glued some 1X9 and 1X4 boards to make a 27″ wide X 46″ long table top.  Will have a 1X11 riser to support laptops/monitors above the keyboard area.  Legs are 2X4’s trimed on the jointer to give a nice square edge (and get rid of grading markings).  Legs each ride on 2 sets of full extension drawer slides.

Biscuit slots cut in top, ready for gluing and biscuits
